About us

Saltydog initially launched in 2010. But the idea and methodology had been bubbling away many years before.

Douglas Chadwick originally devised the Saltydog trend investing system for his own use.

He was very dissatisfied with the performance of his financial advisors and pension company, and was convinced he could do better than them. And it turned out that he was right.

Since he started managing his own money in 2000, He has consistently made market-beating annual gains, and never lost money in a year - not even in 2008 when the FTSE 100 fell nearly 30%.

That’s why he decided to launch Saltydog Investor, and make his trend investing system available to others. He believes private investors are poorly served by much of the financial services industry. And knows that the Saltydog system works.

The principles of trend investing go back a long, long way – with one of its most famous adherents being Jesse Livermore, trading on the U.S. stock market at the end of the nineteenth century. The Saltydog system is our application of those timeless principles, using the data and investment platforms available to us now in the twenty-first century.

Douglas Chadwick

Founder & Chairman

I should tell you that I don’t have a background as an investment professional. Far from it.

Prior to creating Saltydog Investor, at various different stages in my life I have been a deckhand on a deep-sea fishing trawler, a navigator on a merchant navy ship (hence the name “saltydog”), gained a degree in Theoretical Physics, and built up two successful manufacturing businesses worth millions.

That’s an unconventional career, I know, and certainly has little to do with financial services. But I see that as an advantage. When it came to investing in the stock market, I was able to look at the problem with fresh eyes. Plus my natural instinct to work things out for myself led me to develop my own methods from scratch.

Richard Webb

Managing Director

I’m an engineer by trade, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College.

In 2008 Douglas explained to me the trend investing system he had been using, very successfully, for the previous eight years.

I was immediately intrigued, and after further investigation became convinced of the system’s merits – After two more years of development, analysis and refinement, we finally launched Saltydog Investor in 2010.

Ten years later, I remain absolutely convinced by the Saltydog system. Our track record proves that it works, and that it can comprehensively beat the market. And we know from their feedback that Saltydog members achieve great results with it too. It’s not a fluke that it works. It’s a solid, effective, proven system.

I hope you will join us, and see the same effect on your own investments.

Dan Owen

Director

I have over 30 years of experience in the technology and marketing sector. I started as a software engineer for Lloyds of London. Then, in 1997 the internet began to take hold and I knew I had to be part of it. I set up a variety of successful internet businesses including a software and marketing agency, Mustard New Media. I passionately believe in seeing technology exploited to solve real-world problems.

So, when Douglas came to me in 2008 with the idea of Saltydog and trend investing I was immediately hooked. Not only because up until that point, I simply didn’t give my pension performance a second thought, but also because I could see this being a solution to a problem that millions face.
